Source: European Commission to mull Russian gas price cap on Tue

MOSCOW, Sep 6 (PRIME) -- The European Commission and the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the E.U. (COREPER) will discuss capping the price of Russian natural gas on Tuesday prior to a meeting of the E.U. energy ministers, an E.U. source told PRIME late on Monday.

“It was included into the proposals, but to submit it to the energy ministers, the commission will have to discuss it with the permanent representatives in COREPER tomorrow,” the source said.

The proposal of capping the gas price will most likely be approved and submitted for the Friday meeting of energy ministers, the source added.

The finance ministers of the Group of Seven leading industrial nations on September 2 confirmed their plans to cap the price of Russian oil, and called for all countries to join the initiative. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak called the idea absurd and said that the country would stop supplies of oil and oil products to all the countries that would support it.
